Personal style is not grandiloquent but eloquent. It is not about trying to be someone else, it is simply portraying your best self. Finding and refining your personal style can be a struggle. We have all been there at least once, if not multiple times.

To make this less daunting, we have taken time to write down the steps to understanding and embracing the particular style that speaks to you.

  1. Know your body type

    This is absolutely important as it determines which outfit will go best on your body. Everyone’s body is different. Body type enables you know what your best and good features are so you can dress to accentuate them. Once you have understood this, you will find yourself buying what suits you and developing a personal style.

  2. Find your style icon
    The likelihood of finding a single style that defines you is slim. To find out who your main influencers are, start by doing a search of style icons and save images you are drawn to. This will help you fixate your style on a particular look and help refine and stabilize your personal style.
  3.  Know your colour

    This includes knowing your skin tone. Know what colour suits you best and buy outfits around it. Knowing your favorite colours will enable you work around your colour and help reduce the stress of buying colours you might not wear.

    This is key as it helps you invest in staples that go with everything and never goes out of style. First of all, take a hard look at your closet and take out those pieces that you haven’t worn in a long while and those that doesn’t give you the vibe you desire. Some of the wardrobe essentials are: a little black dress, black top, white button down shirt, denim and pumps. This doesn’t mean you buying season’s must-haves. Arrange your wardrobe around pieces you wear.
  5.  Statement pieces
    The last but not the least is statement pieces. These are things people notice first about your outfit. These are most commonly accessory, such as a necklace, earrings, bag or shoes. You can find which accessories speaks your style and stick to it.

Above all, trust your instinct and wear what makes you feel and look like the best version of yourself.
