Turkish President Bans The Use Of Apple And Other American Tech Products
President Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey has mandated that Turks boycott the use of Tech products and gadgets like Apple manufactured from America as a forced medium to improve the country’s falling currency.
“Every product that we buy in foreign currency from outside, we will produce them here and sell abroad… we would boycott the electronics products of the U.S” he was quoted to have said in a meeting in Ankara.
The President however, went on to stress on the Apple INC brand has one of the major brands that should be boycotted by the people of his country in the bid to grow its own production and income base.
He was also quoted to have suggested that Turks make mobile switch from Apple to Samsung or to the country’s based manufactured mobile Venus devices made by Vestel.
Lira, the country’s medium of financial exchange has fallen in value in recent times, and this is putting so much pressure on Erdoğan to find a way to improve the country’s recession problems.
It also appears that tech importation from America has to be on the boycott, because American President Donald Trump has also contributed the national economic crisis rocking Turkey.
This is due to his new policies that have doubled tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminum imports, which is likely what led to Erdoğan’s outcry over US imported gadgets.
Hopefully, Nigerian government can make such move in the future to help build a more stabilized economic context for Nigerians, cutting down on the importation of high-end flagships while we groom our home based technology.
