Versace First Show in New York Was Energetic And colourful

Three months after the Italian Versace empire was bought by the Michael Kors company for $2.1 billion, Donatella gave the new owners a suitably stratospheric collection.

The Versace show was held in New York for the very first time, with a Pre-Fall 2019 collection that embodied freedom and empowerment which was symbolised by the flaming torch of the Statue of Liberty.

The show was energetic, colourful and, as Donatella said, “empowering women”. There were references to the past, going right back to the Gianni years before the founding designer was murdered in 1997. Although the collection took a long look at the archives of the house and touched on memories of Elizabeth Hurley in that Punk dress held together with safety pins, the show looked super modern.

Not surprising, the show was filled with some of the big name celebrities which included; Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye West, Blake Lively, Bradley Cooper, Diane Kruger, Mary J. Blige, Lupita Nyong’o, Young Thug and 2chainz. Was was most surprising though had to the joy and energy of the models, who joined the audience in an impromptu after-show party.
