Oldest Nigerian Prisoner Celebrates 100th Birthday In Prison
Pa Celestine Egbunuche who is reportedly the oldest prisoner in Nigeria celebrated his 100th birthday inside the Enugu Maximum prison on the 4th of August 2018.
Egbunuche who hails from Akokwa, Imo State, was sentenced to death alongside his son and another relation, for killing an individual during a brawl over a piece of land.
The three convicts have reportedly spent over 17 years in jail. Their case has been taken up by an NGO, Global Society for Anti-corruption (GSAC) who is appealing to the FG and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha to use their board of mercy to release him, his 78-year-old relation and son from prison.
The NGO has requested for Egbunuche’s release and has revealed that he has suffered from diabetes over the years.
