A team of Nigerian schoolgirls emerged the winner of the gold medal at the 2018 Technovation Competition which was held in Silicon Valley, California.

The team, codenamed #SaveASoul developed an app called ‘FD Detector’ (Fake Drug Detector) which can detect fake drugs as the name implies.

The Technovation World Pitch Summit is the world’s largest tech entrepreneurship program for girls ages 10-18 and this year’s edition had more than 19,000 girls from 115 countries in attendance.

The team hopes to partner with the National Agency for Food & Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to solve the problem of fake drugs in the country. More than $500,000 was awarded across the teams.

We couldn’t be more proud of these youngsters for representing Nigeria so well.
