2019 Elections: Dogara finally moves ship, APC reacts
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara is alleged to have finally moved parties. He is said to have picked up the Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Honourable Speaker had on Tuesday, expressed his desire to return to the National Assembly in 2019. He expressed this desire when members of his constituency paid him a visit in Abuja. He had however not mentioned the party whose platform he intended to canvass on.
The All Progressives Congress, reacting to this development, Thursday, said that it was not perturbed by the defection of Speaker Yakubu Dogara and insisting that the lawmaker had little political value to consider his defection a loss.
“We have read reports online that he has picked up PDP nomination form,” APC spokesperson Yekini Nabena said, Thursday morning.
“It is not a surprise to us, we already know that he has been working with the PDP.”
The spokesperson emphasized that the party would not expend energy on Mr Dogara because it might not be worth it.
“He is not a loss to us. Even if we give him the ticket he would lose on ground. He is not even on ground in the first place,” Mr Nabena said. “Those kinds of people we call them Abuja politicians.”
“He is not a problem as far as I am concerned. Yakubu Dogara has no electoral value in the APC,” the spokesperson insisted.
Based on this development, it is expected that the Honourable Speaker would formally announce his defection to his colleagues in the House when the National Assembly resumes after the political parties’ primaries.
