Privacy policy

AsEdeyHOT is a social app for news, gist, chat and games. This page explains what we collect when you use the app or this website, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

What we collect

We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't use advertising IDs.
Who helps us run AsEdeyHOT
These companies process information for us, only to provide the service:
- Fly.io: runs our servers.
- Supabase: hosts our database.
- Cloudflare: stores and serves photos, runs this website, the bot check, and some AI features. Photos are scanned for child sexual abuse material.
- Amazon Web Services (SES): sends sign-in emails.
- Expo, Apple and Google: deliver push notifications and app updates. Apple and Google also check that sign-ins come from a real phone.
- Sentry: receives crash reports from the app and from our servers (your account number and what broke, never your messages or posts), so we can fix what broke.
- Anthropic and Cloudflare (AI): the text of public posts and news articles may be sent to them to group posts into stories, write story titles, and write HOT Agent posts. Private messages are never sent to AI.
- TypeSafe AI: may check photos in public posts for nudity, violence or hate, so a moderator can review them.
- Google Analytics: counts visits to this website's home page (not the app): the pages viewed, your browser and device, and roughly where you are from your IP address. It sets cookies to do this. See Google's own privacy policy.
- GIPHY: when you search for a GIF, the app asks GIPHY directly, so GIPHY receives your search and your IP address. See GIPHY's own privacy policy.
Some of these companies store data outside Nigeria. We use them only under agreements that protect your information.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. When your account is deleted, we delete your profile, posts, comments, photos and messages within 30 days. Copies in backups go when those backups expire. We may keep a small record longer if the law requires it or to deal with abuse (for example, a report about your account).
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, and delete your posts, comments and photos, in the app.
- Turn location and notifications on or off in your phone's settings.
- Block people and report content in the app.
- Ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account: see how to delete your account, or email [email protected].
- Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you think we have mishandled your information.
Children
AsEdeyHOT is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child is using the app, tell us and we'll remove the account.
Security
Information travels encrypted between your phone and our servers. Sign-in codes expire quickly, and passkeys keep your private key on your phone. No system is perfect, so tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app.
