Heat and trust

Hot isn't the same as true.

Temperature measures how much people are talking. A separate label says how confirmed a piece of news is, and it doesn't move just because something spreads.

  1. It spreads.A message goes round and climbs from 74° to 93° in under an hour.
  2. The label holds. It's still a community report: one person's word, however many share it.
  3. People report it.Readers flag what they know, and the news is checked.
  4. Now it says Disputed. With a note saying why, right on the topic.
